Mother's Day is Sunday, May 8th 2011.

My Mother's Day Tribute 2011
(I'll post recent pictures of my mom and I when we return from vacation together)
There used to be a segment on the television show Saturday Night Live where a man stands in front of a mirror and talks to himself about how good he is and how special he is – ‘positive affirmation’ it’s called. Well…. I’m special too! I really don’t want to sound so vain but it’s true! (I’m laughing out loud while writing this…)
Reality check – I’m no more special than anyone reading this but I feel special, thanks to my mom. She always comes through with the compliments. She lets me know almost daily that she is proud of me, what I’ve done – am about to do or will do). She comments on what I’m wearing or how pretty or smart she thinks I am. (Okay – I’m laughing again.) Anyway the point of this message is that our mothers make us feel like we are the most special people in the world.
Reality check (again) – it’s really the opposite. My mother is the most
special person. Oh – I dearly love the rest of my family – my husband, kids
and their spouses, and the rest of my extended family too. But my mom is the one
who can always make me feel like this world would not be the same if I was not a
part of it. (Again, the truth is this world would be a much sadder place without
my mom.) She is such a passionate, active, attractive, and contemporary person.
(And I like the way she dresses too!
) Between all
her activities she still finds time to help me out wherever she can. And I want
to help her out whenever I can. It’s not that I don’t think she can do things
for herself – just the opposite – she has the capability to do anything. But I
want to do things for her because she is so special to me.
So mom….the next time we have the conversation regarding letting me do something nice for you – please let me. Think of it this way….it will make me think that I’m special for helping my mom!
I hope this coming Mother’s Day (and all year long) you can make your mother feel your love and gratitude. If you mother has passed then maybe you can do something for someone else in her honor – as a way of ‘paying it forward’ for her. And if you’re not receiving that special feeling from those around you – then come visit with me. We can talk about it and I would bet before the conversation is over you will know that you are special too - because I've learned from the best!
Happy Mother’s Day Mom. I love you forever and a day.
