The 2009 Blues!

I'm not blue because of anything in particular that happened in 2009, I'm just slightly sad because it's close to being over! In less than 2 months we'll be ringing in 2010. ( Doesn't speaking that year aloud sound futuristic?)   And even though we're looking forward to the future, thinking about things from the past gives me pleasure.

I enjoy looking back at how many new things we've added during the past year - so many cool things!  New classes, new beads, new components and and new beading friends! 

One of the most notable changes is our location!  While we're still in the same building, we re-located four doors down (suite 5) to a larger store - with an incredible enclosed class room!  We've had wonderful classes with awesome instructors.  Jeanne Craine  and Julie Campbell have provided hundreds of hours of weaving opportunities, while Cristina Leonard has shown us how happy we can be using metal and tools! Most recently, we had the honor of Anne Mitchell teaching a silver weaving class.  It would have been very difficult for us to have Anne teach here if it weren't for her good friend, Cris.  Anne is a nationally known instructor who travels across the country doing shows and teaching at large venues. (much larger than Cedar Rapids, Iowa)   Look for Anne to make a return visit in January to teach a chain fusing class!

Yes - we've added so many new things in 2009 and while the year has flown by and we can never get that time back,  I'm looking forward to what we can do in 2010!  Like riveting metals together, using colored pencils and turpentine to make awesome metal pendants. More enameling!   Also, watch for a 'Silver findings' class - make your own decorative headpins and closures!

2010 will be a great year for learning new things but I'm truly inspired by what I learned in 2009!  I hope the same is true for you!

What will be

new in 2010?

Winter store hours are the most recent change.  Even though they won't be effective until January 2010, we want to give everyone plenty of notice!   I would hate to think of anyone driving here in the cold and snow just to find us closed!  (Remember, as of 1/4/09 we will be closed on Mondays through the winter.)

We'll continue to add new classes and products in 2010, but in case you haven't visited us lately, we're not just a bead store anymore!. We have so much more to offer. While we continue to love our bead-weaving and stringing, now you can experience hammering on metal - acid etching metal - or applying enamel to copper with an open flame torch. Do you know 'Keum Boo'?  We do!   How about using the BIG hammer and block & dap set to make the 'Bottle-cap 6-pack' bracelet'! It will make you look at bottle caps in a whole new light.

We love this stuff so much, we'll even open the store on Sundays for special classes! We've offered workshops on Sundays  doing enameling on copper and wire-weaving.  With classes on Sundays, we can accommodate more than the usual 6-8 persons per class.  Just watch the web-site and check the calendar for those special dates! (pssstt.... Anne Mitchell will be here January 17, 2010 for a silver chain fusing class - watch for more details on that!)
