Haven Happenings

Where has the time gone? I used to think that I was an A-1 procrastinator but I was wrong. My issue is I put more things on my plate than I can chew. On top of that, I'm eternally optimistic that I can accomplish everything I set out to do and finish on schedule. How many times does that really happen? My friend, Paula, tries to keep me in check when I start bouncing big ideas around that involve a lot of multi-tasking. She has seen me come unglued when efforts that I make to 'do it all' back-fire on me. I'm learning to prioritize all areas of my life. Mom says 'First things first'. So there you go - first things first, second things second, third things third, and you get the idea. The store has had some pretty hectic days since last August. I love that! We've met so many new people and have added more beads, books, kits and tools. The down side of that is that the web site, including the class calendar have had to wait until I could sequester myself away in the office to update everything. Most women are natural multi-taskers and feel it's an everyday part of balancing home, family and career. Now I read that multi-tasking isn't as noble as I thought. Studies show (yes there's a study on it ) that when you multi-task, each project, job or chore suffers a little bit because 100% of the focus isn't directed at that specific project. So now what are we to do about it? My plan has already been implemented! Bead Haven is now closed on Sundays! If nothing else, I can dedicate Sundays to those projects which seem to get stuck on the back burner during the week. Or maybe I'll hang out with my husband and enjoy the day. (Maybe I am a procrastinator after all....) Happy Beading - Cindi |
Can you see yourself here? Do you have a special project or beading technique that you want to share with other beaders? Wire wrapping? Weaving? Earrings? Stringing projects? We're looking for instructors to teach classes. Our new space will have 2 dedicated class areas, so bring it on! Send us an email or call to set up a time to meet. email: beadhaven@hotmail.com Phone: 319-247-2323
We have the June 2008 Bead and Button Show class registration booklets available at the store - so maybe there is something for you to learn too!

Talk about U-Haul! We're moving! But I don't think we'll need a truck or even a car. Our plans are to move to the opposite end of the building we are currently in. It's a bigger space with lots of potential! So when it comes time to move, we'll pick up our trays of beads, walk out the door, make a left and pace off about 100 feet, turn left again and voila! Moved! (That's my optimistic plan for moving.) Actually the move will be a little more complicated than that because of the computers, signage, and peg boards that have been bolted to the wall. I'm anticipating our move will occur around the 1st of February (optimistic?). And it's possible that we may need to close for a day or maybe 2, but if we plan correctly it maybe that the move can be done without disrupting store hours. Watch for more news later. AND THEN - WATCH FOR A BIG CELEBRATION - OPEN HOUSE - TRUNK SHOW! |
